November 2018 Election Endorsements

The San Mateo County Democratic Party is seeking applications for endorsements in the November 2018 election for city council, school district, county commission, and regional board races--as well as local ballot measures. The benefits of an SMCDems endorsement are: SMCDems website listing, press release, slate mailer option, ability to list our endorsement, and some use of our headquarters offices.

It is our job to recruit, mentor, support, and elect good Democrats. And we take great pride in the large numbers of our endorsed candidates that are elected and measures passed. In addition, we like to get to know and build relationships with these individuals as they serve in these important elected positions. It is the backbone of why we exist as a County Democratic Party.

If you are a registered Democrat running for office or if you represent a local measure, please consider applying.

The application and written questionnaire is now available here.

Here is the timetable:

  • July 16 – August 10 – candidates pull papers, gather signatures to qualify for the ballot
  • August 10 - candidate online application and questionnaire form available
  • August 17 – candidate applications and written questionnaire are due at 12 NOON
  • August 25-26 – candidate interviews (other dates may be added)
  • September 6 – Central Committee meets to vote on recommendations

Comments:

  1. You will need to complete the written questionnaire in one sitting. You may want to copy the questions (a downloadable file is available here), write your answers in full, and then copy into the questionnaire before submitting.
  2. You will be interviewed by a panel of Central Committee members and alternates. The interviews will last about 20 minutes.   There will be 5 questions plus opening and closing statements.

If you have any questions during this process, please contact the Endorsements Committee Chair, Karen Maki, at endorsements@smcdems.org.
