Chair's Letter - May 2013

Subject: Spring ahead to a blue summer

May 01, 2013

Last month, Democrats from throughout California gathered in Sacramento for the California Democratic Party's State Convention.

The fun-filled and informative event was a great success featuring trainings, workshops, and opportunities to socialize with Democrats from all parts of California.

California Democrats celebrated the many historic gains and electoral successes of 2012. Democrats in attendance were also reminded of the work yet to be done in 2013 to ensure our momentum continues. Please read below for more details.

Videos from the State Convention are available for viewing at the California Democratic Party Web site here.

Help Restore Democratic Super Majorities in the State Legislature

Since the historic 2012 Presidential Election several sitting Democratic Party state lawmakers were elected to Congress and one state senator resigned his position causing several vacancies in both the State Assembly and State Senate.

There are now several Special Elections taking place throughout California to fill these critical seats.

Democrats throughout California can help restore the Democratic Party's historic supermajorities in both houses of Legislature by making calls to voters in these districts. Help elect three great Democratic women: Norma Torres in Senate District 32, Leticia Perez in Senate District 16, and Lorena Gonzalez in Assembly District 80.

To make phone calls, please visit the virtual phone bank sponsored by the California Democratic Party by clicking HERE.

Endorsements

This Spring there are two Special Elections in San Mateo County including all-mail ballot elections in the La Honda-Pescadero Unified School District and the Portola Valley Elementary School District.

The San Mateo County Democratic Party has formally endorsed Measure N in the La Honda Pescadero Unified School District, a local parcel levy in support of local schools, as well as Measure O, also a parcel levy in support of schools in the Portola Valley School District. For more information on the measures please use the links provided above.

The year ahead will be exciting and as always there remains much work to do as we prepare for the next elections and we invite all San Mateo County Democrats to participate in upcoming events and efforts to keep San Mateo County blue.

Democratically Yours,

David Burruto
Chair
