San Mateo County Democratic Party Newsletter
JULY 2017

Dear Friend --

It's summertime and the pace of resistance is not going to slow down. We have so much to do to fight back to hold onto our Democratic values. And like you, I am spending a lot of time tracking the news, making calls, sending emails, and attending events.

When I’m not being a news junkie or activist, I am working with some great Democrats to plan the San Mateo County Democratic Party’s signature summer fundraising event and launching the fall political program.

Summer BBQ
The Sizzling Summer of Resistance BBQ is shaping up to be an extra special San Mateo County Democratic Party. Expect to meet Democrats from all over the County including new candidates and incumbents pursuing re-election this fall and next year. Invitations have been sent to some statewide candidates and I hope that we can confirm all of them! As you can imagine, volunteers are needed before, during and after the event. To volunteer, contact [email protected].

To purchase your BBQ ticket, visit: www.smcdems.org/2017bbq

To be a BBQ Sponsor, contact: [email protected]

Invite all your friends and family as this is going to be a great Democratic Party!

November Election
At the time of this writing, not too much information is yet available about the November 7, 2017 Consolidated Municipal, School and Special District Election. You can monitor San Mateo County's official election site, ShapetheFuture.org, for information about candidate seminars, voter data seminars, and all the critical deadlines. Questions about candidate filings in San Mateo County can be directed to Michael Yue at 650-312-5923 or [email protected].

Meet the Candidates Night Event
The San Mateo County Democrat’s Political Program will roll out a Meet the Candidates Night during the week of August 28 at a location in the City of San Mateo. At this event, you can informally meet the Democratic candidates running for City Councils, School Boards and any Special District offices. As the candidate filing starts July 11 and ends August 11, I can’t provide you yet with a full list of candidates. As always, we will conduct interviews for possible Democratic Party endorsements and bring Endorsement Committee recommendations to a Special Meeting in mid-September. Watch your email and the SMCDems website for more information.

New Clubs
I have some great news to report. Three new chartered Democratic Clubs are being formed in San Mateo County: Coastside Progressive Democrats, DemsFems of Silicon Valley, and MidPen Solidarity Democrats. Soon we will have contact information for these new Clubs on our website. I encourage you to check them out. The Clubs are where the true grassroots work happens.

General Meeting
Join us for our July General Membership Meeting on July 20th. Business starts at 7:30, but come early at 7:00 for our Social Hour Half Hour! Meetings take place at the Transport Workers Union Local 505 Meeting Hall at 1521 Rollins Road in Burlingame. Plenty of parking available. You can RSVP on Facebook here and on our website here.

Have a safe Fourth of July weekend. Celebrate 241 years of the United States of America.

Democratically yours,

Cecily Harris
